The Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District is sponsoring an upcoming Ask-An-Expert Open House and Water Well Checkup. Both are happening on

Ask-An-Expert Open House, 11am-1pm:

- Water Treatment (Absolute Water)
- Septic System Maintenance (Agrilife Extension)
- Gardening (Travis County Master Gardeners)
- Tree Care (Texas Heritage Tree Care)
- Water Quality Testing (Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center Water Quality Lab)
- Hydrogeology (BSEACD staff)
Water Well Checkup, 10am-4pm:
Well owners in the District can pre-register and pick up supplies from now until the day before the checkup. The first 50 well owners will be able to bring in their water samples on Thursday, April 16 between 10am-4pm to have water screened for pH, nitrate, salinity, and bacteria. After hours dropoff available starting 5pm Wednesday. Samples must be taken less than 24 hours before they are analyzed to give reliable results.
Because this service is being provided free of charge, it is limited to the first 50 people to pre-register and pick up sampling supplies and instructions. We are about half way full at the time of this email. The water quality lab that will be running the bacteria samples will be on site with additional supplies the day of the screening, if you are interested in testing for other constituents or if there are no more slots available for the free screening.

- Get ready to pre-register for the District’s upcoming FREE Water Well Checkup. Water will be analyzed for bacteria, nitrate, pH, and salinity. Area experts will be on hand to talk about water treatment, septic system maintenance, tree care, sustainable gardening techniques, and more!

Inspire students and teachers to learn about groundwater:
- 9-15 year-olds can submit and application for Aquatic Science Adventure Camp scholarships. The summer camp is hosted by the Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center at Texas State. Scholarships are either $150 or $650, depending on the length of camp.
- High school juniors and seniors can submit essays on groundwater topics for the $2,500 college scholarship essay contest.
- Teachers can sign up for the FREE Groundwater to the Gulf Summer Institute for Educators to learn about local water issues, science, and methods for bringing those topics back into the classroom through hands-on activities.
Scholarship applications/essays are due the Tuesday after Spring Break!
